In 2008, with Liverpool as the Capital of Culture, a record number of visitors from across the world came to the city.

Liverpool will submit their bid in Summer 2011 to become UNESCO’s first City of Music in England. If approved, Liverpool would join an exclusive club of just four other UNESCO cities of music and would become a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

The historic waterfront has been a focal point of the city for over eight hundred years. The Pier Head, including the world famous Liver Buildings, is a UNESCO-recognised World Heritage Site. This puts the Liverpool waterfront on an architectural par with Historical Cairo and Notre-Dame.

Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral is the largest cathedral in Britain and the fifth largest in the world whilst the Liver Building is one of the earliest examples of multi-storey reinforced concrete construction in the world.

The eight museums and galleries that make up National Museums Liverpool possess the greatest collection of artefacts, paintings, specimens and objects collectively held under single ownership in the country.
