hotel near earls court
earls court is one of the 2 underground stations nearest to "base2stay™" hotel, just a few minutes peaceful walk from the station. the hotel overlooks a leafy kensington square and a typical london mews.
earls court is in the royal borough of kensington and chelsea just to the west of central london, england.
it is perhaps most famous as the home of the earls court exhibition centre, which is not only one of the country's largest indoor arenas, but also a popular concert venue.
the name is believed to come from a farm, "earls court farm" - and no-one's really sure, but the earl in question may have been either the earl of warwick or the earl of holland.
"the boltons", slightly to the south of the area, is where homes sell for some of the highest rates per square metre in europe (many of the townhouses sell for in excess of £20 million).
interestingly earls court is the name of the area, but the local underground station (piccadilly and district lines) is spelt earl's court, with an apostrophe. the error goes back over 110 years - and would cost too much to change all the underground signs and maps across the entire system!
