Cathedral Late Night Tower Openings
The Anglican Cathedral

This date sees the launch of this year's programme of regular Thursday night late night tower viewings. Following the tremendous success of previous years, this year we are extending the experience and opening up the bell chamber on some Thursdays.
This gives the visitor an even greater spectrum of time to take in the tremendous views across the city and beyond, and watch as twilight turns to darkness revealing a whole new city-scape lit by neon and halogen. Specific dates, and timings, can be found on the downloadable list.

Artist Rooms - Martin Creed
Tate Liverpool

‘Artist Rooms' returns to Tate Liverpool in 2012, with a display of seven important works from Turner Prize winning artist Martin Creed (b. 1968). These works have recently been donated by Creed jointly to Tate and National Galleries of Scotland for the ‘Artist Rooms' collection. Creed is the first new contemporary artist to join the collection since it was established in 2008.
Born in 1968 in Wakefield, Creed grew up in Glasgow. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and has exhibited extensively worldwide.
The seven works presented in ‘Artist Rooms' are in a range of different media including a neon installation, Work No. 890 (Don't Worry) 2008, a 21-part drawing, Work No. 944 2008 and a recent series of four paintings from 2011.

MayRobots and Avatars - Free entry exhibition
FACT

Co-curated by FACT and interdisciplinary design collective body>data>space, this major new exhibition showcases some of the most exciting ideas from international artists and technologists.
Exploring our desire to exist in both virtual and physical worlds, and the steady integration of humans with technology, Robots and Avatars brings together artworks that find physical limbs rendered into pixels through the act of touch, collaborative landscapes stretching beyond the confines of popular gaming, and wearable technology that guides and confounds.

Titanic and Liverpool: the untold story
Maritime Museum

To mark the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic, this compelling new exhibition will explore Liverpool's central role in the Titanic story. The exhibition will feature previously unseen collections of international significance including material from Merseyside Maritime Museum's extensive archives - for example this tragic letter from May Louise McMurray that was never delivered. It will complement the museum's existing permanent gallery, the hugely popular Titanic, Lusitania and the Forgotten Empress.

Costume Drama: Fashion from 1790 to 1850
Sudley House

This exhibition explores the development of fashionable dress between 1790 and 1850, a period of rapid social, economic and political change. Exactly two hundred years after the publication of Jane Austen's first novel, 'Sense and Sensibility', visitors to Sudley House will be able to see original clothes and accessories from her time. Viewers of popular television adaptations, such as Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice' and Elizabeth Gaskell's 'Cranford' novels are sure to enjoy this collection of early and rare garments. Highlights include a man's court suit from the 1790s or early 1800s, richly embroidered with multi-coloured silks and a brilliant yellow silk brocade evening dress, from the early 1840s.

The International Slavery Museum

The International Slavery Museum presents Toxteth 1981, a series of the civil disturbances referred to as the ‘Toxteth Riots' or ‘Uprising'. This exhibition is collaboration with the Merseyside Black History Month Group (MBHMG) and Writing on the Wall(WoW).

White Gold: the true cost of cotton
International Slavery Museum

This exhibition highlights the abuse of labour rights in the cotton industry, primarily in Uzbekistan, one of the largest cotton exporters in the world.
The Uzbekistan government forcibly conscripts hundreds of thousands of its citizens, including young children, to work in its billion dollar cotton industry. The Uzbek government is the main beneficiary of this forced labour, demanding high production quotas and retaining rigid control over the exports.

Turner Monet Twombly
Tate

This ambitious exhibition brings together works by J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851), Claude Monet (1840-1926) and Cy Twombly (1928-2011), three of the most prolific and well-known artists of all time. Turner Monet Twombly will explore the similarities between these artists in style, subject and artistic motivation. Featuring iconic works such as Monet's fabulous Water Lilies and Turner's much loved romantic landscapes, the exhibition will also showcase Cy Twombly's recent paintings of blooms, shown in the UK for the first time. Alongside Turner's compelling, atmospheric works and the beautiful and emotive art of Monet, Twombly's original contemporary style adds a fresh and exciting dimension to the exhibition.
